The life of Riley

Whoever came up with the expression "working like a dog" has obviously never visited our household...Although during puppy training, the expression can be applied to the 2 legged creatures in the house.

a window of flowers

A little something I have been working on recently...a gift for a friend's 65th birthday. Called "65 Flowers for Linda", the window has...you guessed it...65 flowers on it.It's also etched with a saying I came up with: "Family and friends are colourful flowers on the path of life."

We had our "silent essay" competition at our recent photo club meeting. A silent essay (at our club) consists of 12 slides in one theme. I decided to show some of my bug photos. I spent last summer taking close ups of bugs in our yard. John questioned my sanity many times! Here are 6 of the slides from my slide show...

Garden Shed Envy

A couple of years ago, we headed to New Brunswick towing our trailer and picked up some windows left over from a renovation of a century old farm house. The windows were much, much bigger than the man told me on the phone....too big for my window art...but we brought them home anyway and I've been dreaming about a greenhouse ever since.I spotted this wee garden shed on a recent drive, and snapped some photos on our return trip.

Isn't it cute? I have enough windows to build something similar....now I just need some wood and roofing materials. Oh yeah, and some talent.
A girl can dream...

My reward

I have been a busy little bee this past week. Every moment not spent with the new pup has been spent at the computer creating the Love From Me Art Book, or spent in my studio creating a window project (more on that at a later date). I haven't had my camera out in a while (other than puppy photos) but grabbed it today when I saw these deer grazing when I looked up from my desk.I took a few shots with my regular lens, then ran and grabbed my zoom.
A couple shots with the zoom through the upstairs window, then I sneaked outside.
This is the first time in 3 years I've been able to get close enough for half decent photos.I felt so great, I didn't notice the fact that I had run outside without my usual coat, gloves, hat and scarf!

Right after this photo, the deer decided I was too close for comfort. There were 7 of them, and they all leaped gracefully away.

how I'm spending my days

I am spending a large part of my days outside these days....trying to burn off energy. No, not my energy (I could use a little to keep up). Our new pup Riley is full of pep and she's keeping our (almost) 12 year old Mulligan active. Mulligan is gentle and has an extraordinary amount of patience.Although I grumble when I roll out of bed at 6ish in the morning, it makes me smile to walk around our fields (even in the rain) and watch the joy of a puppy as she discovers her world.

To The Beach

We love going to the beach, even in the winter. Friday was a gorgeous, sunny day...but cold. We took the opportunity to introduce our new pup Riley to one of our favourite places. She is a little trooper...we were on the beach for 1 1/2 hours. The trip was also another first for her...her first car ride in the back with Mulligan. The whole thing exhausted her and she slept for hours when we got home. One of the reasons we were so long at the beach? Sand dollars!Usually (if I'm lucky) I'll find one or two sand dollars at Risser's Beach. On Friday, I got a bag full...it was truly amazing how many there were.

206 sand dollars on one trip to the beach! Just how many sand dollars is too many? I don't know...I'm not there yet.

This and That

Some flowers to brighten your day....they brightened my day when I received them :)The trouble with someone giving me flowers is that I spend a lot of time taking pictures of them (the flowers...not the flower givers). This week has been a little overwhelming for me. Thankfully I have some very understanding friends who graciously agreed to postpone my celebration get togethers until I feel up to it.Today is my first day of physio therapy at the local hospital (thankfully, driving to Halifax is not required). I didn't mention it before, but I had a bad trip & fall five days before my radiation started. I didn't break anything, but damaged my deltoid (sp?) muscle...which is going to require physio to repair. Oh joy.But the good news is that I've been doing exercises for the past 4 weeks and my arm is much, much better than it was (I thought for a couple of days that it was paralyzed...I could move it, but only by using my other arm to move the damaged arm around)And more good news...Riley is fitting in nicely to her new home with us. She is full of spunk and curiosity. (we'll forget about the frustrating times outside in the cold and dark waiting for her to do her business!) She is a bundle of energy, and fun to have around.Other good news...my Love From Me Project is progressing nicely. I am currently in the midst of contacting all the artists and will start putting the art book together next week (or perhaps the week after that).

And one final thing that makes me very happy....take a listen to the song on the link below. I heard this on CBC radio yesterday on the Q program. It made me stop in my tracks. What a voice! She's only 22 years old and this song is so powerful it gave me shivers. Take a listen to Rolling in the Deep by Adele:
